Who We Are

Trout Unlimited is a national organization whose mission is to conserve, protect and restore North America’s cold water fisheries and their watersheds. TU accomplishes this mission on local, state and national levels with an extensive and dedicated volunteer network. TU’s national office, based just outside of Washington, D.C., and its regional offices employ professionals who testify before Congress, publish a quarterly magazine, intervene in federal legal proceedings, and work with the organization’s 152,000 volunteers in 450 chapters nationwide to keep them active and involved in conservation issues.

We, as a local representative of this national organization, work to support this mission within our community. Throughout the year, on a monthly basis, our group meets to discuss what we can do to support TU’s mission as well as promote the fun and joy of fly fishing. During the winter months our members hold weekly fly tying seminars for those aged 10 to 100. During the spring, we work on stocking the local rivers with trout supplied by the NY Dept. of Conservation (DEC), planting trees to protect our stream-sides from erosion and trash pick-up on our home waters. Summer and fall are left to monitor our ongoing stream improvement projects. We also support Project Healing Waters which teaches fly tying, casting lessons and fishing to veterans of the U.S. Military services. We also like to fish! While the name says TROUT, our members fish for any and all types of fish. Bass to Muskie, Salmon to Catfish, Panfish to Perch, Strippers to…. Well you get the idea; no fish is off limits (unless NY State says so).
So if you’ve been fishing forever or lifting a rod for the first time, come join us. We’d love to have you as a member.
